After much consideration including site visits to other school systems, there will be no grade changes at Admiral Moorer Middle School or Eufaula Elementary School for the beginning of the 2015-16 school year. An Early Childhood Center will be created at the start of the 2015-16 school year with prekindergarten only, and Eufaula Primary School will house kindergarten through second grade. By starting the Early Childhood Center with only prekindergarten students for 2015-16, traffic flow can be observed, growth of prekindergarten numbers should be witnessed and necessary modification to buildings, classrooms, etc. can be evaluated.
Moving forward, at the beginning of the 2016-17 school year, our prekindergarten classes will become the first kindergarten classes at the Early Childhood Center. Kindergarten teachers will be transferred to the Center, and a new group of prekindergarten students will be welcomed. At Eufaula Primary School, starting in 2016-17, kindergarten and first grade students from 2015-16 will become first graders and second graders, respectively. Second graders will become third graders and remain at Eufaula Primary School. A determination will have been made on whether or not to move sixth grade students to Eufaula Elementary School or leave sixth grade students at Admiral Moorer Middle School. When all phases of this plan are complete, one school will become a two grade level school because of the creation of the Early Childhood Center.
Mr. Eddie Tyler, superintendent of Eufaula City Schools, stated, “The board blessed an aggressive three-year plan for Eufaula City Schools. It has been, and will continue to be, our jobs to determine what is best for students, teachers, administrators and the community. This decision was not made hastily. At the end of the day, this is the right thing to do. We will now become very aggressive in preparing for the opening of the Early Childhood Center for the start of 2015-16.”
